Bison Spotlight – John Horner

We would like to shine our next Bison Spotlight on a member of the class of 2022, John Horner. John is a native of Fair Haven, New Jersey, pursuing a degree in Sport Management. Here on The Hill, John is a member of the Emerging Leaders Program, Sport Management Club, Student Retention Council, and Human Resource Management Club. When John’s not running around campus, he enjoys playing and watching sports, hanging out with close friends and listening to music. A fun fact about John is he met Bruce Springsteen while working this past summer. Another fun fact about John is he was born in Pune, India, and was adopted by his current parents when he was three years old.

This upcoming summer, John is interning as a Hockey Coach Assistant for his former coach of the New Jersey Raiders, a minor league hockey team in New Jersey. During this internship, John will be helping with drills during tryouts and practices, organizing lines and tournaments with other head coaches, and also serving as a resource for players in and out of the locker room.

John is looking forward to being a part of the Raiders this coming summer. His favorite part about his future internship is he will be working in a  field where he has lots of experience and with a sport he loves. John says, “It won’t even feel like work for me because I love hockey so much and love helping others”

Luckily for John, the coach he will be interning with was his former coach and taught John how to play hockey since he was ten years old. Also, John used to play for the spring league team he will be coaching. He played for the team for three years from eighth grade to his sophomore year in high school. John said, “Crazy how fast life is going!”

John’s advice to others is to not give up. He said “If you don’t get the first internship you apply to, keep working and try your best while maintaining a great attitude. Your hard work will pay off eventually! Take advantage of all your resources on campus”.

We want to congratulate John on his amazing achievements and this wonderful upcoming opportunity! The CPDC Team wishes you the best of luck with your future internship. Thank you for sharing!
