Bison Spotlight – Sarah Klotzman

We shine our next Bison Spotlight on Sarah Klotzman. Sarah is from North Granby, CT, and graduated spring 2020 with a degree in Sport Management. On The Hill, she had a work-study job at the Boys and Girls Club of Webster-Dudley as a Youth Development Professional. Outside of school and work, Sarah enjoys going outside on warm days to hang with her friends and play with dogs. An interesting fact about Sarah is she graduated from Nichols in three years!

During summer 2019, she interned for the Granby Recreation and Leisure Department as an Office Staff Intern. Sarah worked with marketing summer and fall programs for the Town of Granby and did everyday office work. She also helped out on a team to put together the first annual Bluegrass Festival at the town’s park.

When asked about a typical day during her internship, Sarah replied, “I began my day collecting food cards from the summer camp staff and reordering and stocking the food, snacks, and drinks. I then would answer phone calls and direct them to the right person if it was something I could not help them with. I worked on marketing ideas like bulletin boards and street signs. On certain days of the week, I sat on the committee for the first annual Bluegrass Festival and then did any tasks I received. I also assisted walk-ins by answering questions, registering them for programs, or booking facility rentals.”

Sarah’s favorite thing to do during her internship was connecting with her community. She also enjoyed listening to the community stories as well as their feedback on how they wanted to see the town’s departments grow and expand.

This internship taught Sarah a lot. Her biggest takeaway and advice to others is that “If you are a shy person and like to stay under the radar, definitely try to get outside your comfort zone. Before my internship with the Granby Recreation Department, I was super shy and stayed in my own lane. My internship really helped me branch out and work on communication skills! I was able to get a once in a lifetime opportunity to be a part of the first Super Bowl practicum experience!”

Sarah’s internship with the Granby Recreation and Leisure Department led her to now be their soccer coordinator for the 2019 season! Recently she was offered and accepted a position to be a Camp Director at Mission Adventure! The CPDC Team would like to thank Sarah for taking the time to interview with us and we wish you the best of luck in your future.
