The Institute for Women’s Leadership along with the Nichols Advancement Office and Career and Professional Development Center hosted the kick-off event for the new Women in Nichols (WIN) Mentoring Program in early September. Mentors and mentees in the program were able to meet one another and begin making connections. It was wonderful seeing the group together and pairs making plans for the program year.
WIN is a new initative in its first year; this exciting program pairs undergraduate students with women alumni in their field of study. The students in the program will learn from their mentors, receive guidance and set goals for their future. The Kick-Off event was the start to this great program.
The event was held in the Academic Building which provided an easy commute for all mentees. While most mentors were able to make the trip to the Hill for the event, some were there in spirit. The program is hosting mentors from all over the continent, not limiting the engagement opportunities based on location. Mentees were given their mentor information prior to the event and all were able to make contact and begin the mentoring relationship, whether present at the event or not. The Kick-Off event provided the opportunity for mentees and mentors to meet participants from across the program and make many new connections.
One student commented: “Last night was full of an amazing energy, and it felt great to be in a room filled with so many outstanding women! So excited for the future of this program.”
Another student commented: “Last night was a great night! This is an amazing opportunity to network, learn, and grow by having a mentor.”
Overall, the event was successful, everyone enjoyed themselves and loved getting to know one another. We are excited to see this program grow over the academic year!
