Barnes Group has an exciting and career building opportunity for a dynamic individual to join our global Human Resources team as a Benefits Intern. This position will provide exposure to the field of Global Benefits and its contribution to talent management initiatives such as attracting, retaining, rewarding and engaging talent. The Benefits Intern will directly assist the Total Rewards team contributing to successful strategy development, communications and administration of our benefit programs along with diverse projects within our global scope.
This position will provide the opportunity to:
- Participate in strategy development and execution of health, welfare and retirement benefit plans/programs aligned with our Total Rewards philosophy
- Understand the role and importance benefits and total rewards plays in supporting a global Talent Management Strategy
- Develop skills in effective benefits marketing, including web, print communications and design
- Gain valuable exposure to effective vendor relationship strategies
- Support and contribute to the development of employee work/life and wellbeing programs
- Cultivate an understanding of benefit mechanics as well as lexicon essential to HR practitioners
- Support the implementation and ongoing administration of our global benefits and compensation plans and programs.

Responsibilities:
- Contribute to various benefit -related projects and processes including plan/program implementations, planning and execution of annual open enrollment and development of employee communications and/or training materials, etc.
- Participate and contribute to vendor management meetings
- Assist with developing presentations in support of key initiatives
- Perform administration on plans, programs and policies
- Support key retirement plan activities
- Respond to employee/HR benefit inquiries and escalations
- Coordinate monthly and quarterly wellness initiatives (U.S.)
- Perform benchmarking and assess current competitive practices.
- Financial reconciliation and processing of monthly invoicing.
- Support other projects within the area of Total Rewards
Qualifications:
- Strong project management and attention to detail with the ability to multi-task on a wide variety of duties and projects
- Excellent analytical skills and financial acumen
- Self-starter with ability to manage ambiguity and demonstrate results
- Self-motivated and capable of exercising initiative and working independently
- Time management and planning skills to meet critical deadlines
- Ability to interact and communicate effectively at all levels of the organization
- High ethical standards and commitment to maintain confidentiality of work
- Excellent computer skills required including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint as well as comfort working within HR Information Systems (HRIS) a plus
Education Requirements: Currently enrolled in an accredited college/university as a junior or senior, pursuing a bachelor’s degree, or in a master’s degree program studying Human Resources, Accounting, Business Administration or other closely related field of study.
