Job Summary
Responsible for underwriting and retention for Commercial Lines business. The underwriter is expected to collaborate with production (new business) underwriters and Business Development Representatives. Profitably manages risk selection in an assigned Commercial Lines underwriting territory through analysis of the information presented. Manages an assigned underwriting territory of agencies. Select or decline accounts submitted from the agents, acting within clearly defined underwriting authority levels, guidelines, and philosophies. Perform agency management responsibilities that involve analyzing, monitoring, and evaluating assigned agencies to identify potential concerns or trends within a book of business. Work with assigned agencies to influence the overall profitability, quality and composition of each agency’s book.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Education: Bachelor’s Degree or professional level of knowledge in a specialized field, or equivalent, related experience. Completion of Introduction to Insurance or at least one INS, AU, AIC, or AEI Claims Law course in the last three years.
Experience: Prior renewal underwriting experience needed.
Knowledge: Limited to moderate knowledge of industry practices, standards, and concepts within field of work. Learns to apply them to the job.
